SEPTEMBER 10 – OCTOBER 22 – EXHIBITION *** LAST WEEK***– 50 STATES: TEXAS; OKLAHOMA; COLORADO is a new series of work by husbands (and collaborating artists) Nick Vaughan and Jake Margolin. It is the culmination of two years of on-the-ground research and development in the three states. Part of Nick & Jake’s 50 STATES project, a series of 50 large scale installations to be completed over the next several decades, in response to little-known pre-Stonewall LGBTQ histories from each state, the work asserts that our nation’s LGBTQ histories, while under-recognized, are an integral part of our regional and national identities.

In addition to their elaborately hand cut road maps, the two will present three new large works dedicated to an 1895 lesbian novel, a 19th century gender-non-conforming chef and a once-lauded but now largely forgotten gay Cherokee playwright. The work examines the precariousness of ‘marginal’ histories and the need to honor them before they disappear.

This is Nick and Jake’s 2nd solo exhibition presented at The Invisible Dog.
