MONDAY JULY 18
Composer / Choreographer and Designer John Moran has lost his only computer after a crash. Currently, he and regular performance partner, Saori Tsukada, are in the middle of an international tour, and have had plans to use that opportunity to create their first, feature-length film together, of their latest work ‘John Moran + Saori (…in Thailand)’. However, without a computer to work on, these efforts will have been for nothing. So, we are holding a benefit performance, of their latest work, ‘John Moran + Saori (…in Thailand)’. Admission to the event – which includes artworks for the film, a special presentation by Moran demonstrating his unique working process, as well as some spicy Thai offerings – is only $35.00. All proceeds from this benefit will go to the purchase of a computer for Mr. Moran to continue working, and small items needed for the shooting of their latest work, this coming August in New York City. According to their plans, this process must be completed before mid-August.
John Moran has generally been regarded as the protege of composer Philip Glass. In 2003, Glass was quoted as saying, “I am convinced that there is no more important composer working today, than John Moran. His works have been so advanced as to be considered revolutionary.” Having created numerous, large-scale operas over the 1990’s – often featuring performers such as Uma Thurman, Allen Ginsberg, Iggy Pop, and Julia Stiles – his latest works have featured the dancer, Saori Tsukada. After relocating their work to Europe in 2007, Moran and Saori have created a sensation among presenters internationally, and are currently beginning their 3rd world tour in the past 4 years.
