The art we host in our galleries may be our guts, and Mac Premo’s iconic façade piece, You Are Reading This (2015) our face, but our 25 resident artists together form the heart—the very pulse—of The Invisible Dog. This year, we are proud to open, to the public, the studio doors of our resident artists for the 7th annual Invisible Dog Open Studios. Once a year, we let our heart beat in public to make known the art brought to life each and every day within the second and third floor walls. The incredible individuals and collaborators we host come from vastly different backgrounds with even more varied mediums and styles, but together, their imagination reverberates throughout our walls, our floors, our very foundation. You can feel the creative flow of our building throughout the year, but only during Open Studios can you see the work within our walls that makes us who we are.
In addition to in their studios, you can see work from the artists in an exhibition in our gallery, open from May 4th–8th. On May 4th, long-time resident Oliver Jeffers will stage a performative retrospective of his career, and on May 6th and 7th, the pulse of music performances and readings from visiting artists will sound alongside ours during Look and Listen Festival and the Writers’ Roadshow 2016. We will also feature the work of the youngest artist ever presented at ID, Frieda Premo.
The Invisible Dog’s Open Studios is a chance for the public to see, hear, and truly feel the beating heart of our expansive community. It is a time for us to proudly show just what amazing things have been going on in our building throughout the year.
