Work in progress performance of Le Misanthrope by Molière, featuring the students of Princeton University’s Department of French and Italian L’Avant-Scène, the French Theater Workshop. Directed by Florent Masse.

The students of Princeton University’s L’Avant-Scène, French Theater Workshop, will present excerpts from their March production of Molière’s Le Misanthrope directed by Florent Masse. In Le Misanthrope, one of Molière’s most popular and beloved plays, Alceste loves Célimène, a free-spirited young widow who likes entertaining prominent members of the aristocratic society in her salon. Worried about the results of an upcoming trial, Alceste makes his way to Célimène’s with his friend Philinte. He wants his mistress to publicly announce that she’s choosing him as partner, but to do so he must confront his rivals and enemies. 

The performance will consist of scenes drawn from the first three acts. In French.
