As our collective experience with the crisis of meaning matures, the interface with art becomes increasingly intellectual. The modern-day craft renaissance further shifts the academic art conversation away from the kinesthetic, thusly buttressing the 4th wall between art object and viewer. Subsequently, it can be argued that the gallery setting has served to alienate more than enlighten those who visit, contributing further division between the elites and the populists, the major players in this fabricated narrative.
With Kickable, Jeffers and Premo ask whether this tension will push outward along these divisive lines, creating a larger cultural chasm and intellectual alienation of Kaczynskian proportion, or will some brave soul accost the 4th wall and just kick some sh*t?
