Our second decade has started at The Invisible Dog Art Center. Opened in October 2009, "the Dog" has found a stable position in the constant movement of New York City. But the Invisible Dog isn't a monolith; we are strong, flexible and innovative because of our structure:
#51Bergen is the home of 27 artists, painters, sculptors, illustrators, photographers, and other artists who have a work space, a safe place to create beautiful artwork and develop their career in an environment that encourages innovation and collaboration. They are 25 to 65 years old, hailing from all over the world, and represent what Brooklyn is known for: diversity. Year after year, together we share success and failure, joy and sadness, questions and answers. Artists are the heart of The Invisible Dog.
#51Bergen it is the site of our artistic program. Every year, The Invisible Dog commissions, produces and presents multiple solo exhibitions, performing arts and an array of cultural events, including book launch, movie screening. We are not a gallery, not a theater, not a concert hall. We are all of that. The 4000 square feet industrial space is given to artists with only one condition: do whatever you want but do it WITH the space! We have no restriction, we can nail on the columns, screw in the floor, draw on the walls. Jane Jacobs said, "New ideas must happen in old buildings." We cannot agree more.
The new born, la Salle A Manger: SAM! A private space, where only invited guests can gather around a creative meal and a good conversation. Artists, supporters, farmers, makers, friends, visitors, anyone with a voracious appetite for food and art is welcome at SAM. Opened in November 2018, SAM has already received more than 400 guests. We would love to have you too!
And still there is more: multiple residency programs offering artists from all over the world to spend a week, a month or more in Brooklyn; a beautiful garden where you can bring your coffee and your favorite book; the famous bench on Bergen street, where you can casually meet our artists; and our engagement with the community when we open our door to school fundraisers, weddings, memorial services and even dog shelters.
The Invisible Dog is more than an Arts Center. It's a place where, every day, more than 100 people work, share materials and techniques, exchange ideas, eat meals together, debate the state of the world, and create.
For the Season 11 we have build an "AMAZING" program for you, and we need your support. Every year, for the last 8 years, our Kickstarter campaigns have been successful. We count on you to make this one a success - and maybe more!
