July: Ariel Goldberg in residency
Public performance: Wednesday, July 18 at 8pm
The Photographer will be a performance rotating around a press conference, slide lecture, and newscast. The Photographer is a singular and multiple force, based on the book of poetic criticism of the same name. The performance will encapsulate and mystify a relentless log of photographic events and encounters ranging from the mundane to the magnificent.

In Blue-s-cat, by French-African playwright Koffi Kwahule, in it’s first English translation by Chantal Bilodeau, a man and a woman are trapped in an elevator. Alone in an unnamed city, confined in a suffocating space, stubbornly protecting their own mental and physical territory, they are rendered further isolated by their own thoughts. Using the improvisational rhythms of jazz, the characters’ inner monologues propel the story and music of the play across a complex landscape of the mind.
Jacquelyn Landgraf and Gonçalo Ruivo will perform Blue-s-cat in the Invisible Dog’s elevator.

Ariel Goldberg writes and performs poetic criticism on photography and other things. Recent publications include Picture Cameras, The Photographer without a Camera, and The Estrangement Principle. They have read at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Small Press Traffic, The Segue Series, and the Berkeley Art Museum.
Resident Artist Jacquelyn Landgraf is an actress, director, and writer based in Brooklyn. From 2005-2011 she was an ensemble member and co-artistic director of The New York Neo-Futurists, the writer/performers of the ongoing show Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind (NYIT Award, Outstanding Performance Art, the Caffe Cino Award). Most recent credits include The Complete and Condensed Stage Directions of Eugene O’Neill Vol. 1: Early Plays/Lost Plays (Drama Desk nomination for Unique Theatrical Experience), Susan Marshall Dance Company’s Sawdust Palace, The Caucasian Chalk Circle with Pipeline Theater. She has directed at The Atlantic Theater, Atlantic Acting School, The Kraine, Nuyorican Poet’s Café, the Maria Irene Fornes Festival and hotINK International Festival. She is on the acting faculty at the Atlantic Theater Company Acting School, and received her B.F.A. in Drama from N.Y.U.’s Tisch School of the Arts.
Gonçalo Ruivo is a Portuguese actor currently living in New York City where he is finishing the 2.5 Year Conservatory Program at Atlantic Acting School. He has a degree in acting from the Higher Institute of Theater and Cinema in Lisbon. In Portugal he has a body of work that includes stage, film, and television commercials. Blue-s-Cat marks his U.S. theater debut.
