The Invisible Dog Art Center is thrilled to present an evening of storytelling by Anne Terrail, as part of Nafas, an exhibition and a festival celebrating the union between food and art.
A restaurant is like a theater; it has a backstage, actors, dancers, staging, even its own music. A great restaurant is a space that surpasses the everyday: governed by its own rhythms and codes, populated by devotees. Here it is dominated by the figure and the voice of a father who, having once dreamed of a career on the stage, instead built his life around his beloved Tower, the restaurant Tour d’Argent in Paris.
The character leads us in and around the restaurant which was part of her life as a child. We follow in her footsteps, brief excursions through the labyrinthine building, within its grand restaurant; high on the sixth floor, the river Seine flowing down below, delicious smells swelling her nostrils. She shares with us mysterious restaurant tales of ducks, asparagus and butter knives, transformed through a child’s senses and dreams.
There's nothing more serious than pleasure. This axiom governed André Terrail when he took over La Tour d'Argent (The Silver Tower) back in 1914. The philosophy is still evident today. Terrail's grandson André, who took over from his father Claude in 2006, is credited with bringing this over 400-year-old establishment into the 21st century.
