In the Artists Studio, by Nemo Hoffman & Gabe Benzur

The Invisible Dog and The Scion Project are thrilled to present an exhibition by Nemo Hoffman and Gabe Benzur.

Two distinct worlds converge in artists Gabe Benzur and Nemo Hoffman’s shared studio at The Invisible Dog Art Center. In the front, Benzur works amidst a curated chaos of canvases, brushes, paints, and eclectic objects. In the back, Hoffman surrounds himself with wood, metal, wires, saws, and hammers—tools of a raw and industrial artistry. These seemingly opposite universes, unlikely to intersect, are essential to their creative processes and daily routines. Together, they form a small community within the larger collective of The Invisible Dog.

The Scion Project (TSP) connects artists and the community in a dynamic environment where art thrives. TSP's main initiative is to support local talent, fostering creativity and cultural exchange. Their platform allows artists to share their work, building meaningful relationships with those they inspire. They aim to cultivate an ecosystem where art bridges individuals, ideas, and experiences.

Entering The Scion Project coffee shop mirrors stepping into the vibrant, creative community of The Invisible Dog. It offers an intimate glimpse into the secret world of artistic creation.

For our inaugural collaboration with The Scion Project, we are thrilled to showcase the work of two exceptional artists and invite you to experience their universe. The only major difference? At The Invisible Dog, we don’t serve delicious coffee.

We hope you enjoy your time at the coffee shop, letting your senses come alive and resonate with the creativity around you.

Words from Nemo Hoffman: The materials find me, on the street, the flea market, the basement; they already have a story. I explore the tension between the space they occupy and my manipulation of these found objects. With power tools and patience, my work is a reimagining of the beauty in the discarded.

Words from Gabe Benzur: My approach is then largely materials-focused. Color and paint chemistry are critical. Thin layers of oil paint are built up slowly to create depth—the same methods used in 16th—and 17th-century painting. I prefer color experimentation over a set process, mixing forgotten pigments with modern ones in unexpected ways.
