As apart of the Collective Threads exhibition and programming, The Invisible Dog is thrilled to welcome Lucy Beizer as she leads a hand quilting workshop.
Hand quilting is a tactile journey into creativity, storytelling, and sustainability. This age-old practice invites us to slow down, connect with materials, and embrace the imperfections that make handmade work so special. Each stitch becomes part of a larger narrative, binding together fragments of fabric and found objects into something uniquely personal.
Come join this hand quilting workshop led by Lucy Beizer where students will make a small hand stitched quilt using pieces of scrap fabric, beads, threads and found objects. Get experimental and bring home your own mini handmade quilt. Some materials will be provided but feel free to bring your own found objects and fibers to play with!
Lucy Beizer is a fiber artist who integrates a variety of traditional techniques into her soft sculptures. Her work focuses on nature, memory, nostalgia and conservation. She often incorporates found and reused objects into her fiber pieces, as well as natural dyes, scrap yarns and fabrics, and original illustrations. Lucy has trouble choosing just one style to work in, her pieces range from applique quilts to knitted masks and wearable art. What stays consistent is her love for any type of fiber project, portraying recognizable symbols and being a little silly. Lucy uses art as a form of creative record keeping and as a way to communicate and connect. Lucy lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
