Yarn & Yack/ Fiber & Knitting Workshop

  • The Invisible Dog Art Center 51 Bergen Street Brooklyn, NY, 11201 United States (map)

The Invisible Dog is thrilled to continue another monthly session of Yarn & Yack, a fiber and knitting workshop led by Ana Watterson.

Inviting all knitters, crocheters, and anyone interested in expanding their fiber knowledge! Bring your hooks, needles, and yarn for an afternoon of crafting, contemplation, and community.

All skill levels are welcome.

An old Irish crochet saying is,
you leave a little bit of your soul in everything you crochet.
So, to avoid this, you should work in a hidden mistake to allow your soul to escape.

A commentary on the value of imperfection and the knowledge of the hand–which is often dismissed in our capitalist, hyper-consumerist landscape–this charming notion not only encourages the learning of a craft but also embraces our humanistic errors in artmaking.

Throughout history, craft has served a myriad of purposes: from acts of resistance and self-sufficiency to outlets for communal bonding and socialization, personal and cultural expressions, and more. The goal of this workshop is to reflect and incorporate these rituals of fiber work from around the world, which has accompanied human experience for hundreds of years, only now in the context of the present.

If you are interested in attending or have attended a Yarn & Yack, consider filling out this form with feedback and demonstration suggestions.

Ana Watterson is a fiber and multimedia artist based in Brooklyn. She rediscovered her passion for crochet work and knitting during the pandemic–these crafts were originally taught to her by her respective grandmothers–and has since been exploring the extent to which she can push the bounds of their practices within the notions of time and labor. Using crocheting and knitting to be both meditative and invigorating, she incorporates and holds both traditions as precious mediums within her artistic contemplations. She is also the gallery manager of The Invisible Dog Art Center.
