Kiki Joyce
Kiki Joyce (b. 2000, NYC) received her BFA in painting from Rhode Island School of Design in 2022, where she received the Florence Leif Award. She’s exhibited work at galleries such as Subtitled NYC, Thames Art Center in NYC, and Warner Gallery in Millbrook, NY.
I make paintings to examine the time and place I live in. Growing up in New York has informed much of my imagery. The spaces created can be contradictory, surreal, or paradoxical. It's an unloading of unconscious information and emotions from daily life. I contemplate moments of movement and stillness, referencing long walks, sitting in the park, and subway commutes. I consider the relationship between humor and tragedy. I think about how the mundane can lend to instances of genuine connectivity, joy and miracles.
