The Elizabeth Krief and Jacques Manardo Artist Residency Program at The Invisible Dog offers artists of all disciplines and nationalities the opportunity to reside in New York City for 1-3 months, without any obligation of a final production and objective, aside from engaging with our city of fantasy, change, excess, power, possibility, hustle, and grandeur.
Everyone finds their own way and the experiments are impossible to anticipate. New York changes all who visit; we’re anxiously waiting to see what resident artists see and discover. Artists will be housed in a furnished apartment in the heart of Brooklyn near The Invisible Dog Art Center and are encouraged to live in total immersion, connect with one of the most vibrant artist communities, meet professionals from the international art world, and participate in events in New York and abroad (Armory Show, Frieze, etc.).
The residency requires applicants to have presented work in their country of origin (USA included) or abroad, but having spent little to no time in New York City.
This 4-year-old program was made possible thanks to the exclusive support of Elizabeth Krief and Jacques Manardo.
We are pleased to announce that the sixth resident artists will be Fabia & Ryan Mendoza (Germany) from March 1–31.
Fabia Mendoza was born in 1986 in Berlin, Neukölln. Her first movie The White House Documentary (2017) won at 18th Beverly Hills Film Festival and was presented at Art Rotterdam, 12th Habana Bienal, The Free Press Film Festival, and among others. It gives insight into her husband’s artistic endeavors and tells the background story of the Rosa Parks House Project.
Over the past six years, she collaborated on a variety of projects including Another Pussy for Putin–an art performance as an act of solidary for the Russian punk band Pussy Riots and Amerikkka–a photo project in collaboration with Erica Garner, the daughter of late Eric Garner.
Fabia is the protagonist in Ryan Mendoza’s artist diary Tutto è mio, published in 2015 by Italy’s renown publishing house Bompiani.
From 2012-2014 inspired by social themes, she created fashion installations presented at Soho House Berlin. She has collaborated with David Lynch for his music video All the Things.
Fabia’s photos and cinematographic work have been featured by Vogue Italia, Interview Magazine, i-D Magazine, CNN Style, Vanity Fair, and among others.
Her video and documentary material has been feature by BBC World, CNN, and among others.
Her upcoming autobiography studies the role of the muse and speaks openly of the blurring confines of art and pornography in posing for her husband, American painter Ryan Mendoza.
She volunteers in projects in collaboration with The Clowns without borders in Africa and in refugee camps in Berlin.
