Dear Friends,
How are you today? "Like a Monday" we like to answer in France.
Mondays are usually day off at The Invisible Dog since weekends are very busy: exhibitions, performances, weddings, bar mitzvahs, fairs, meetings on the bench, friends visiting, visitors becoming friends, dinners at la Salle A Manger, receptions, parties, after parties, after after parties, coffees, naps...
But for a few weeks now, Mondays look like any other day. Writing this reminds me of an Italian class in high school. To teach us the tonic stress of each day, the teacher was hitting the desk hard with the palm of her hand: LuneDI (bang), MarteDI (bang), MercoleDI (bang), GioveDI (bang) VenerDI (bang) SAbato (no bang), la Domenica era per tutti (happy tone).
This week, I'm giving you some important news from The Invisible Dog (bang).
From Monday to Sunday, at least once a day, I'm going to #51Bergen, I open the door and keep it open for a few minutes, letting the fresh air circulating into the vast space. The Invisible Dog is still breathing.
On the ground floor, dozens of cardboard boxes full of masks and medical supplies stored by Med Supply Drive, are waiting to be dispatched to local hospitals. A daily reminder of the current situation and our duty to help the way we can. The Invisible Dog is still supporting.
In the garden, where I smoke a cigarette, Prune Nourry's sculpture looks after the nature growing wild and the birds peacefully tweeting around. Where is she today? Where are all the artists of The Invisible Dog? Some of them who live close by are safely working alone in their studios on the second and third floor of the building, the others are working from home. The heart of The Invisible Dog is still beating.
At la Salle A Manger which has became a studio for online cooking lessons, it's not only twelve guests I have around the table but more than 2000 who have followed and prepared Lucien Chef Ambition's recipes. The Invisible Dog is still greeting.
But this Monday is unlike any other Monday because on Saturday, The Invisible Dog won 5 Emmy Awards for its fundraising video of the Saison 10 directed by Mac Premo. The Invisible Dog is still celebrating.
So, "Tout va très bien, Madame la Marquise"*?
Not really, because "like other cultural organizations, we also are grappling with serious financial issues and planning for an unprecedented and therefore uncertain future" said Anne Pasternak, the Director of the Brooklyn Museum. "But we will go through this crisis". The Invisible Dog is fully agreeing.
"Monday Tuesday. day after day life slips away. Monday, it's just another morning, Tuesday, I only feel like living, dancing along with every songs"**.
The Invisible Dog is always singing.
Coronarely yours,
Lucien Zayan
